From school jotters to novels
My journey into storytelling began as a young teenager, captivated by narratives across all forms – films, TV shows, books, and video games. The story I'm telling now in my upcoming novel has been with me for a long time, starting as a short piece in my school jotter and evolving over the years.
Two years ago, I decided it was time to finally commit to completing it, not only to prove to myself that I could, but also as a way to process the sudden passing of my father.
The unexpected twists of writing
One of the most enjoyable, and unexpected, parts of my writing process is how much of the story unfolds in the moment. Unlike some authors who meticulously plan every beat, many key plot lines for my novel emerged during bursts of inspiration.
This often means lots of delightful backtracking to weave new ideas seamlessly into the existing narrative, creating a dynamic and evolving story that surprises even me.
Beyond The Odyssey of Flint
My upcoming novel is just the beginning; it's the first book in a planned trilogy that I've already mapped out. After its publication, my focus will shift to bringing the next instalment to life. Additionally, I plan to write self-contained short stories set within the world of The Odyssey of Flint, offering readers further insights into its rich universe.
Outside of this world, I have several other novels in progress, including a black comedy set in modern-day Britain, approximately 50% complete. This will be a significant departure from The Odyssey of Flint, following a young serial killer's quest for notoriety.
