Discover the world of The Odyssey Of Flint
Embark on a journey into a medieval world where honour, loss, and the fight for a better future collide. Learn about the epic tale, its compelling characters, and the themes that define this unique story.

The core story: A hero's journey subverted
At its heart, this novel weaves a traditional hero's story within a rich medieval historical fiction setting. Our main character begins as a naive teenager, yearning for adventure. However, the narrative takes a poignant turn as he confronts the harsh reality that his desires lead to pain and loss from which he can never truly recover.
The central conflict ignites when the main antagonist escapes his prison, determined to spark a rebellion among the world's impoverished and forgotten. His goal is to overthrow the ruling class, his own tragic past mirroring the protagonist's journey, driven by deep loss and betrayal.

Meet the characters driving the narrative: Gabriel and Flint
Gabriel, our primary protagonist, starts his journey as a young man, blissfully unaware of the complexities of the wider world. His life is initially defined by a profound heartbreak: witnessing the girl he loves choose his best friend. This personal sorrow fuels his desire to leave home, seeking both an escape and a new purpose – a life of adventure and honour among the elite warriors of the Order of Michael.
Flint, the main antagonist, is a figure forged in the fires of past failure. Years before our story begins, he led an unsuccessful rebellion, resulting in his imprisonment. Upon his escape, Flint is resolute in achieving his long-held goal, gathering those disillusioned with the ruling class, who feel abandoned and neglected. He masterfully persuades them with promises of a better, free life. Flint is deeply scarred by the murders of his family years ago, and uses the anger born from this injustice to drive his every action. He sees himself as the sole individual capable and willing to make the difficult decisions required to forge a better world.

What makes this novel unique?
This novel delves deep into themes of honour, exploring what it means to do the right thing, even when the personal cost is immense. It scrutinises differing ideologies concerning power, the corrupting influence it can wield, and the enduring strength of love and brotherhood.
A cornerstone of the storytelling is the principle of cause-and-effect. Every action, every beat of the story, and every decision made by a character leaves a lasting impact on the narrative. Importantly, no character, regardless of how outwardly cruel or benevolent, is presented as entirely one-dimensional. Each possesses a nuanced depth, driven by what they genuinely believe to be the right course of action.
